The Lebanon Rescue Department has set up a fund to help a local family that tragically lost their 15 month old child on Friday, November 28th at their Lebanon home.
Lebanon Rescue was called to the home on Upper Middle Road on Friday morning around 8am. When rescue members arrived within minutes of the call, they found adorable Ty Gilpatrick, age 15 months, had tragically passed away. His loving mother, Kristen Desmarais and his grandfather, Stephen Kelly lived at the house with him. His father, Ryan Gilpatrick of Hollis was a very loving father and quickly arrived at the scene.
Dozens of family members and friends converged on the scene to learn that Ty had passed away.
York County Sheriff's Department Deputies and Maine State Police Detective worked at the scene for the entire morning.
While the exact cause of death has not yet been determined, the family still has been grieving the loss of their only child.
The family does not have the money for some of the final expenses, like cremation. They had just enough money to provide Ty with a warm and loving home and to raise a great child who will be missed by his many relatives who loved little "Ty Ty."
The Lebanon Rescue Department has set up a fund to help the family pay for the final expenses. Every dollar will help this family.
"It is always tragic to lose a child, but the day after Thanksgiving and when the family had so many plans for the upcoming Holiday like going to the mall to see Santa. Those are the things we cannot bring back for the family. We just want to help the family be able to remember Ty and all the brightness he brought to the family. I have met with the entire family. His parents are exceptional people who would do anything in the world for their child. He has very loving great grandparents, grandparents, aunts and uncles. Words cannot express the sadness that all of the rescue members who responded to that call feel. We feel it is our duty to help them in any way we can. " Rescue Chief Samantha Cole added.
"We understand at the Holiday Season that money is tight. We just hope that people can help this family dealing with a tragedy to be able to memorialize their adorable child." Chief Samantha Cole added.
Checks can be made out to: Lebanon Rescue Corporation - Ty Gilpatrick Fund -- all money will be forwarded to the family for the expenses.
Donations to help the family with the final expenses can be mailed to:

Update - January 16th, 2009
The following is the update on the Ty Gilpatrick Memorial Fund Account.
The Lebanon Rescue Department has collected about $3,050 from 57 families in the Ty Gilpatrick Memorial Account since it was first started at the beginning of December. The donations came from several New England States, plus New York and Florida.
All of the families expenses and the final expenses for the creamtion and services were paid off thanks to all the generosity of the community.
One donation that was received after the expenses were paid off was used to help with the rescues campaign to assist families in Lebanon with children who were less fortunate for Christmas. "We talked to the gentleman who made the donation and he said to use the donation to help the children in the community and Ty's parents agreed that wanted to help the kids through this program. This donation as well as money fundraised by the Lebanon Rescue Corporation through bean suppers, was used to buy clothes, toys and food for 30 children in 11 families. Ty's family who tragically had to experience their Christmas without Ty had a little bit of peace by knowing 30 other children would experience a better Christmas in his memory." Assistant Chief Jason Cole added.
Currently there is about $1,020 left in the Ty Gilpatrick Memorial Fund.
"The family of Ty have mentioned that they wanted to set up an account to help someone who suffered a loss that couldn't pay for the funeral. We have heard from a Lebanon family that lost their 41 year old husband and father of a young child who needs help paying for the funeral. We have spoken with Ty's mom who wants to help the family, so it looks like the money in the account will help this family, in Ty's memory. This other family lost their dad and husband on Christmas, hours after opening presents with the young family and friends. It truly was another tragic call and Ty's family wants to help them out, as they know what it is like to experience a tragic experience." Assistant Chief Jason Cole added.
The Lebanon Rescue Department responded to three seperate deaths of younger people within a short period, all around the holidays. Ty Gilpatrick, age 15 months, passed away the day after Thanksgiving. A 32 year old male with a young son passed away about 1 week later and then this 41 year old gentleman with a young daughter passed away on Christmas Day.
"It has been a very difficult couple of weeks for the rescue responders. But our committment doesn't end when we leave the patient, we have helped the families in any way that we could. The Lebanon Rescue Department Chaplain, Pastor Ron German, who is an EMT on the Rescue, was the Pastor at two of the funerals. We will continue to help the families in any way we can. The community has been so generous with the Ty Gilpatrick fund, it has now helped more people than anyone ever expected when we started the donation account" Rescue Chief Samantha Cole added. "We would like to keep the account open and hold fundraisers so we can continue to help families who suffer tragic events. Ty's family wants to help other families, so they are hoping to keep the account open and we are looking at various fundraising ideas."
Anyone wanting to make a donation to the account is encouraged to send the donation to:
